Current State and Future Directions

The integration of digital platforms has expanded access to care. Telehealth has reduced barriers for rural populations, while mobile health (mHealth) apps allow for real-time monitoring of mood and sleep patterns, providing clinicians with longitudinal data rather than relying on retrospective patient reports.
Advanced technical interventions such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) are being utilized for treatment-resistant depression. These methods use electromagnetic fields or implanted electrodes to stimulate specific regions of the brain, such as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, to modulate neural activity.
There is a growing scientific consensus that mental health cannot be treated in isolation from social contexts.
